How do I sign up for TNCC?
You register through the Emergency Nurses Association or an ENA-approved course provider — often your own hospital or state trauma education body. The course combines pre-course study, in-person teaching, an online multiple-choice exam and evaluated Trauma Nursing Process skill stations. Seats fill early, so book before you start studying.
What does the verification process involve?
Two parts: an online multiple-choice written exam and a hands-on, evaluated Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) skill station. ENA does not publish a fixed public question count or time limit for the written exam, so we don't quote one — we build timed full-length papers instead of guessing at exam-day mechanics.
What score do I need to pass?
You need at least 80% on the multiple-choice exam, plus completion of all critical steps and at least 70% of total points on the evaluated TNP skill station. Both parts must be passed.
How long is TNCC valid?
Four years from course completion, and the provider card is recognised internationally. ENA also offers a renewal pathway — self-directed study followed by a practical test and the online exam — instead of repeating the full course.
Who is the course for?
Nurses at all levels. ENA-licensed providers generally recommend around six months of clinical experience in emergency or trauma nursing first, because the course assumes you're comfortable with core nursing knowledge and terminology.
What does the course cover?
The 9th Edition curriculum: initial assessment, airway and ventilation, shock, head, thoracic and neck trauma, abdominal and pelvic trauma, spinal and musculoskeletal trauma, surface and burn trauma, interpersonal violence, psychosocial aspects of trauma care, disaster management, transition of care, post-resuscitation considerations, and special populations — the LGBTQ+, pediatric, obese, older and pregnant trauma patient — plus eight TNP skill stations.
